Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up the mountain to pray.As he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became very bright, a brilliant white.Then two men, Moses and Elijah, began talking with him.They appeared in glorious splendor and spoke about his departure that he was about to carry out at Jerusalem.Now Peter and those with him were quite sleepy, but as they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.Then as the men were starting to leave, Peter said to Jesus,“ Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”– not knowing what he was saying.As he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.Then a voice came from the cloud, saying,“ This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!”After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. So they kept silent and told no one at that time anything of what they had seen.

Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them privately up a high mountain.And he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him.So Peter said to Jesus,“ Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, I will make three shelters– one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my one dear Son, in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!”When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground.But Jesus came and touched them.“ Get up,” he said.“ Do not be afraid.”When they looked up, all they saw was Jesus alone.

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

So Moses set out with Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up the mountain of God.

You will see a king in his splendor; you will see a wide land.

Now when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand– when he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to approach him.But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and Moses spoke to them.After this all the Israelites approached, and he commanded them all that the LORD had spoken to him on Mount Sinai.When Moses finished speaking with them, he would put a veil on his face.But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out. Then he would come out and tell the Israelites what he had been commanded.When the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone, Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with the LORD.

After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country.

and in the midst of the lampstands was one like a son of man. He was dressed in a robe extending down to his feet and he wore a wide golden belt around his chest.His head and hair were as white as wool, even as white as snow, and his eyes were like a fiery flame.His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp double- edged sword extended out of his mouth. His face shone like the sun shining at full strength.When I saw him I fell down at his feet as though I were dead, but he placed his right hand on me and said:“ Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

He sprouted up like a twig before God, like a root out of parched soil; he had no stately form or majesty that might catch our attention, no special appearance that we should want to follow him.

Then I saw a large white throne and the one who was seated on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.

So Ahab went on up to eat and drink, while Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel. He bent down toward the ground and put his face between his knees.

who will transform these humble bodies of ours into the likeness of his glorious body by means of that power by which he is able to subject all things to himself.

who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped,but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature.He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death– even death on a cross!

This is the third time I am coming to visit you. By the testimony of two or three witnesses every matter will be established.

Now when Jesus heard this he went away from there privately in a boat to an isolated place. But when the crowd heard about it, they followed him on foot from the towns.

Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God– what is good and well- pleasing and perfect.

He answered,“ Elijah does indeed come first and will restore all things.And I tell you that Elijah has already come. Yet they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

But if the ministry that produced death– carved in letters on stone tablets– came with glory, so that the Israelites could not keep their eyes fixed on the face of Moses because of the glory of his face( a glory which was made ineffective),how much more glorious will the ministry of the Spirit be?For if there was glory in the ministry that produced condemnation, how much more does the ministry that produces righteousness excel in glory!For indeed, what had been glorious now has no glory because of the tremendously greater glory of what replaced it.

Now it was during this time that Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent all night in prayer to God.

Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory– the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

He arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood.

For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of his grandeur.For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory:“ This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.”When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain.
