初希律以其弟腓力妻希羅底故、執約翰繫於獄、蓋約翰曾謂之曰、納此婦非宜也、希律欲殺之、而懼眾、因眾以之為先知也、適希律誕、希羅底女舞於前、以娛希律、遂誓許所求、女為母所唆、曰、求以施洗約翰之首、於盤上予我、王憂、然以誓故、又以同筵者在、乃命予之、遣人斬約翰於獄、置首於盤以予女、女以奉母、

我語汝、以利亞已至、而人不之識、任意待之、人子亦將受其害、門徒始悟所言、乃指施洗約翰也、○

耶穌之名既彰、希律王聞之曰、施洗約翰自死而起、故此異能運行於彼焉、或曰、以利亞也、或曰、先知也、猶先知之一也、惟希律則曰、我所斬之約翰起矣、初希律遣人執約翰繫獄、為其弟腓力妻希羅底故、蓋希律已娶之、約翰曾謂之曰、納弟妻非宜也、於是希羅底怨之、欲殺之而弗得、因希律敬畏約翰、知其義且聖、而庇之、聞其言、心多猶豫、而喜聽之、會逢其適、希律於誕辰設筵、宴諸大夫千夫長及加利利之尊者、希羅底之女入舞、以娛希律及同筵者、王謂之曰、凡爾所欲、求則予之、又矢之曰、爾所求、即國之半、我亦予之、女退、謂母曰、我當何求、曰、施洗約翰之首、女亟入見王、求曰、我欲施洗約翰首、即置盤中予我、王憂甚、然以矢故、又以同筵者在、不欲拒之、乃命侍衛一人、取約翰首、遂斬之於獄、置首於盤、以予女、女以予母、

彼將以以利亞之性與能、行於主前、使為父者之心、轉向其子、逆者從義者之智、為主備適宜之民、

先知中、不為爾祖窘逐者誰乎、且殺預言義者將至之人、此義者爾今賣而殺之矣、

分封之君希律、因其弟腓力妻希羅底事、及所行諸惡、見責於約翰、乃益其惡、囚約翰於獄、○
