耶穌謂之曰、以利亞必先至、振興諸事、而經指人子何所載、蓋載人子必多受苦、為人所侮、

答曰：『伊理靄固需先來振興萬事、然經不亦言人子應如何備嘗苦辱乎？

Jesus replied,“ To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?

Jesus replied,“ That’s right. Elijah does come first. He makes all things new again. So why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and not be accepted?

And he said to them,“ Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Jesus responded,“ Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt?

“ Elijah does come first and restores all things,” he replied.“ Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

And He said to them,“ Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Who hath believed our message? and to whom hath the arm of Jehovah been revealed?For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.

Thus saith Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of Jehovah that is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.

Like as many were astonished at thee( his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),

And many of the children of Israel shall he turn unto the Lord their God.And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

Save me, O God; For the waters are come in unto my soul.I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried: Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: That which I took not away I have to restore.O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee.Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts: Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother’s children.For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them.They that sit in the gate talk of me; And I am the song of the drunkards.But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.And hide not thy face from thy servant; For I am in distress; answer me speedily.Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: Ransom me because of mine enemies.Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: Mine adversaries are all before thee.Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.Let their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, let it become a trap.Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; And make their loins continually to shake.Pour out thine indignation upon them, And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them.Let their habitation be desolate; Let none dwell in their tents.For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded.Add iniquity unto their iniquity; And let them not come into thy righteousness.Let them be blotted out of the book of life, And not be written with the righteous.But I am poor and sorrowful: Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving.And it will please Jehovah better than an ox, Or a bullock that hath horns and hoofs.The meek have seen it, and are glad: Ye that seek after God, let your heart live.For Jehovah heareth the needy, And despiseth not his prisoners.Let heaven and earth praise him, The seas, and everything that moveth therein.For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah; And they shall abide there, and have it in possession.The seed also of his servants shall inherit it; And they that love his name shall dwell therein.

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain:and the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, saying,Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about the Jordan;and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing- floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not; And in the night season, and am not silent.But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.Our fathers trusted in thee: They trusted, and thou didst deliver them.They cried unto thee, and were delivered: They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame.But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised of the people.All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,Commit thyself unto Jehovah; let him deliver him: Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him.But thou art he that took me out of the womb; Thou didst make me trust when I was upon my mother’s breasts.I was cast upon thee from the womb; Thou art my God since my mother bare me.Be not far from me; for trouble is near; For there is none to help.Many bulls have compassed me; Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.They gape upon me with their mouth, As a ravening and a roaring lion.I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.My strength is dried up like a potsherd; And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil- doers have inclosed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.I may count all my bones. They look and stare upon me;They part my garments among them, And upon my vesture do they cast lots.But be not thou far off, O Jehovah: O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.Deliver my soul from the sword, My darling from the power of the dog.Save me from the lion’s mouth; Yea, from the horns of the wild- oxen thou hast answered me.I will declare thy name unto my brethren: In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him; All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel.For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Neither hath he hid his face from him; But when he cried unto him, he heard.Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.The meek shall eat and be satisfied; They shall praise Jehovah that seek after him: Let your heart live for ever.All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah; And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.For the kingdom is Jehovah’s; And he is the ruler over the nations.All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship: All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him, Even he that cannot keep his soul alive.A seed shall serve him; It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation.They shall come and shall declare his righteousness Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;

Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times.And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

And one of the malefactors that were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.

From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness of the light.There was the true light, even the light which lighteth every man, coming into the world.He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us( and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace.For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou?And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ.And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.And they had been sent from the Pharisees.And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,even he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me.And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water.And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples;and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!

Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: Remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee all the day.

Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciplesand said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see:the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind?But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in kings’ houses.But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force.For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellowsand say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn.For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon.

in the highpriesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.And he came into all the region round about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins;as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth;And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven.Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him.He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.

And Jehovah said unto me, Cast it unto the potter, the goodly price that I was prized at by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them unto the potter, in the house of Jehovah.
