耶穌心裏深深地歎息，說：「這世代為甚麼求神蹟呢？我實在告訴你們，沒有神蹟給這世代看。」

耶穌靈裡深深地嘆息，就說：「這世代為什麼在尋求神蹟呢？我確實地告訴你們：絕不會有神蹟賜給這世代。」

耶穌中心太息、曰、斯世胡為求兆乎、我誠語汝、必不以兆予之、

耶穌中心太息曰、此世胡為求異蹟、我誠告爾、我必不以異蹟示此世、

耶穌中心歎息曰、斯世何為求異跡、我誠告爾、必不以異跡示此世、

耶穌衷心長歎曰：『斯代奚為求靈徵也！予誠告爾、實無靈徵可示斯代也。』

He sighed deeply. He said,“ Why do you people ask for a sign? What I’m about to tell you is true. No sign will be given to you.”

And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

When he heard this, he sighed deeply in his spirit and said,“ Why do these people keep demanding a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, I will not give this generation any such sign.”

Sighing deeply in his spirit, he said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He* said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation!”

But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

Sighing deeply in his spirit he said,“ Why does this generation look for a sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to this generation.”

He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him,“ Ephphatha!”( which means“ Be opened!”).

A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

He answered,“ A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:“ Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;for they loved human praise more than praise from God.

As the crowds increased, Jesus said,“ This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

“ If you are the Messiah,” they said,“ tell us.” Jesus answered,“ If I tell you, you will not believe me,and if I asked you, you would not answer.But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”They all asked,“ Are you then the Son of God?” He replied,“ You say that I am.”

“ You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied,“ how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

He was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.

He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

“ Abraham replied,‘ They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’“‘ No, father Abraham,’ he said,‘ but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’“ He said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.“ Where have you laid him?” he asked.“ Come and see, Lord,” they replied.Jesus wept.Then the Jews said,“ See how he loved him!”But some of them said,“ Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
