But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said,“ Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

Now when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.He said,“ When evening comes you say,‘ It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’and in the morning,‘ It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then he left them and went away.When the disciples went to the other side, they forgot to take bread.“ Watch out,” Jesus said to them,“ beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”So they began to discuss this among themselves, saying,“ It is because we brought no bread.”When Jesus learned of this, he said,“ You who have such little faith! Why are you arguing among yourselves about having no bread?Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many baskets you took up?How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”Then they understood that he had not told them to be on guard against the yeast in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,plotting against him, to catch him in something he might say.

Now when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they assembled together.And one of them, an expert in religious law, asked him a question to test him:

Jesus also said to the crowds,“ When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once,‘ A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does.And when you see the south wind blowing, you say,‘ There will be scorching heat,’ and there is.You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?“ And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then the Pharisees went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.

Peter then told her,“ Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”

For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom,but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

Now the Pharisees and some of the experts in the law who came from Jerusalem gathered around him.And they saw that some of Jesus’ disciples ate their bread with unclean hands, that is, unwashed.

So they said to him,“ Then what miraculous sign will you perform, so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?

So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“ Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”

When the experts in the law and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples,“ Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

So Jesus said to him,“ Unless you people see signs and wonders you will never believe!”

The same day Sadducees( who say there is no resurrection) came to him and asked him,

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said to them,“ Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”

None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?

Now after Jesus entered the temple courts, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

Then some Pharisees came to him in order to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful to divorce a wife for any cause?”
