Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things,lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say.

He also said to the crowds,“ When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once,‘ A shower is coming.’ And so it happens.And when you see the south wind blowing, you say,‘ There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens.You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?“ And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

But Peter said to her,“ How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem,they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.

So they said to him,“ Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples,“ Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

So Jesus said to him,“ Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”

The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question,

But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them,“ Why put me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”

Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?

And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking,“ Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”
