對潔淨的人而言，一切都是潔淨的；對污穢不信的人而言，什麼都不潔淨，連他們的思想和良心都是污穢的。

就對他們說：「你們都知道，按照猶太人的傳統，我們不可以和外族人來往。但上帝已經指示我不可把任何人視為污穢不潔。

因為上帝的國不是關乎吃什麼喝什麼，而是關乎公義、平安和聖靈所賜的喜樂。

耶穌說：「你們還不明白嗎？

彼得卻說：「主啊！這可不行！我從未吃過任何污穢不潔之物。」那聲音又一次對他說：「上帝已經潔淨的，你不可再稱之為不潔淨。」這樣一連三次之後，那塊布就被收回天上去了。

因為這些不過是關於飲食和各樣潔淨禮儀的外在規條，等新秩序的時代一到，便不再有效了。

我們只須寫信吩咐他們遠避被偶像玷污之物，不可淫亂，不可吃血和勒死的牲畜。因為自古以來，在各城都有人宣講摩西的律法，每逢安息日，都有人在會堂裡誦讀。」

我說，『主啊，這可不行！我從未吃過任何污穢不潔之物！』那從天上來的聲音又說，『上帝已經潔淨的，你不可再稱之為不潔淨。』這樣一連三次，然後一切都被收回天上去了。

你們這些毒蛇的後代！你們心裡邪惡，又怎能講出好話呢？因為心裡充滿的，口裡自然會說出來。

你們不要被五花八門的異端邪說勾引了去，因為心中得到力量是靠上帝的恩典，而不是靠飲食上的禮儀，這些禮儀從未使遵守的人受益。

禁止人結婚和吃某些食物。其實那些食物是上帝創造的，為了讓相信並且明白真理的人存感恩的心領受。上帝所造的一切都是美好的，若以感恩的心去領受，就無需任何禁忌，因為上帝的道和人的禱告可以使食物聖潔。

耶穌說：「你們也不明白嗎？你們不知道嗎？從外面進去的，不會使人污穢，因為不能進入他的心，只能進他的腸胃，最後會排出來，也就是說所有的食物都是潔淨的。從人裡面發出來的才使人污穢，因為從裡面，就是從人的心裡能夠生出惡念、苟合、偷盜、謀殺、通姦、貪婪、邪惡、詭詐、放蕩、嫉妒、毀謗、驕傲、狂妄。這一切惡事都是從裡面生出來的，能使人污穢。」
