He said,“ Go and tell these people:‘ Listen continually, but don’t understand! Look continually, but don’t perceive!’

Jesus also said to the crowds,“ When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once,‘ A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does.And when you see the south wind blowing, you say,‘ There will be scorching heat,’ and there is.You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?“ And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

Elijah approached all the people and said,“ How long are you going to be paralyzed by indecision? If the LORD is the true God, then follow him, but if Baal is, follow him!” But the people did not say a word.

You who are naive, discern wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment!

So Philip ran up to it and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. He asked him,“ Do you understand what you’re reading?”

Listen to this, all you nations! Pay attention, all you inhabitants of the world!Pay attention, all you people, both rich and poor!

Micaiah said,“ If you really do safely return, then the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added,“ Take note, all you people.”

Take notice of this, you ignorant people! You fools, when will you ever understand?

As all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,“ Beware of the experts in the law. They like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.They devour widows’ property, and as a show make long prayers. They will receive a more severe punishment.”

Meanwhile, when many thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples,“ Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
