Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”

While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and brothers came and stood outside, asking to speak to him.

When they had entered Jerusalem, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.

Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary,“ Listen carefully: This child is destined to be the cause of the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be rejected.

but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

Then many of his disciples, when they heard these things, said,“ This is a difficult saying! Who can understand it?”When Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining about this, he said to them,“ Does this cause you to be offended?

There were also women, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.

Do we not have the right to financial support?

“ Lord,” Judas( not Judas Iscariot) said,“ what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”

But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother.

All were speaking well of him, and were amazed at the gracious words coming out of his mouth. They said,“ Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”Jesus said to them,“ No doubt you will quote to me the proverb,‘ Physician, heal yourself!’ and say,‘ What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, do here in your hometown too.’”And he added,“ I tell you the truth, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s days, when the sky was shut up three and a half years, and there was a great famine over all the land.Yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to a woman who was a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, yet none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”When they heard this, all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.They got up, forced him out of the town, and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff.

Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”

This is what the LORD, the protector of Israel, their Holy One, says to the one who is despised and rejected by nations, a servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and rise in respect, princes will bow down, because of the faithful LORD, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.”

He sprouted up like a twig before God, like a root out of parched soil; he had no stately form or majesty that might catch our attention, no special appearance that we should want to follow him.He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

So as you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and priceless in God’s sight,
