黑落娣女起舞為壽、合席歡然。王謂女曰：『任汝所求、必予汝。』

When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl,“ Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”

But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod,

Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them.

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha and Abagtha, Zethar and Carkas, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus,to bring Queen Vashti before the king with her royal crown, in order to show the peoples and the princes her beauty, for she was lovely to look at.But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s command delivered by the eunuchs. At this the king became enraged, and his anger burned within him.

The Lord said: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks, glancing wantonly with their eyes, mincing along as they go, tinkling with their feet,therefore the Lord will strike with a scab the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will lay bare their secret parts.In that day the Lord will take away the finery of the anklets, the headbands, and the crescents;the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves;the headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets;the signet rings and nose rings;the festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags;the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.Instead of perfume there will be rottenness; and instead of a belt, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a rich robe, a skirt of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.Your men shall fall by the sword and your mighty men in battle.And her gates shall lament and mourn; empty, she shall sit on the ground.
