其人出、廣宣而播揚之、致耶穌不復顯然入城、爰居於野、四方就之、

蓋主之道自爾聲聞於外、不第於馬其頓亞該亞、且爾於上帝之信、隨在播揚、我儕無庸有言、

提庇留該撒在位之十五年、本丟彼拉多為猶太方伯、希律為加利利分封之君、其弟腓力為以土利亞及特拉可尼地分封之君、呂撒聶為亞比利尼分封之君、

既知其隸希律治下、則遣詣之、時、希律亦在耶路撒冷、○希律見耶穌甚喜、蓋因聞其事、久欲見之、且冀見其異蹟、以多言問之、而耶穌一無所答、祭司諸長與士子、立而訟之甚切、希律與其士卒輕忽戲玩之、衣以彩服、復遣詣彼拉多、彼拉多與希律素相仇、是日遂相友矣、○

對曰、施洗之約翰、或曰、以利亞、或曰、先知之一、

在耶路撒冷作機、乃巧匠所創、置於城樓角樓、以發矢與巨石、烏西雅之聲名傳及遠方、蓋得異常之助、至於強盛也、○

是時法利賽數人來、謂之曰、出而去之、希律欲殺爾也、

亞捫人納貢於烏西雅、烏西雅之聲名洋溢、至埃及界、因其甚強故也、

其聲名遂洋溢於加利利四境、○

二人出、徧揚其名於斯地、○

維時、分封之君希律、聞耶穌聲名、謂其臣曰、此乃施洗約翰自死而起、故此異能運行於彼焉、初希律以其弟腓力妻希羅底故、執約翰繫於獄、蓋約翰曾謂之曰、納此婦非宜也、希律欲殺之、而懼眾、因眾以之為先知也、適希律誕、希羅底女舞於前、以娛希律、遂誓許所求、女為母所唆、曰、求以施洗約翰之首、於盤上予我、王憂、然以誓故、又以同筵者在、乃命予之、遣人斬約翰於獄、置首於盤以予女、女以奉母、其徒至、取屍葬之、往告耶穌、○
