And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

Some places may not welcome you or listen to you. If they don’t, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet. That will be a witness against the people living there.”

入一邑、而不見納、則出至通衢、而告之曰：「爾邑之塵着我足、茲當爾拂去之。第爾應知天主之國在邇矣！」予實語爾、他日、索多瑪之刑較斯邑猶易受也。哀哉哥絡潯！哀哉珀璾達！假令爾中所顯靈異、顯於諦羅西同、則早已披麻坐灰、幡然悔悟矣。故審判時、諦羅西同之刑較爾猶易受也。鳴呼葛法農！爾欲被陟而登青雲乎？爾必被降而入幽獄也！

而猶太人則唆聳歸化之貴婦及負時望者、迫辱葆樂、巴拿巴、逐之出境。二人當眾拂去足塵、而赴以哥念；門徒皆大歡喜、備受聖神。

再加索多馬蛾靡拉及其周鄰諸邑、皆以放縱恣肆、褻行無恥、爰受永火之刑、用垂炯戒。

又索多馬蛾摩拉二邑亦為天主所黜、而付諸一炬、以為後世不肖之炯戒。

我語爾、審判之日、凡人所道輕薄之言、必須一一負責。

有不爾納者、離時拂去足塵、以證其非。』

耶穌在諸邑廣行聖跡、而居民終不悔悟；因斥之曰：『哀哉哥拉潯！哀哉伯撒達！假令爾中所行神蹟、行之於諦羅西同、早已披麻蒙灰、而憣然悔改矣。第吾語爾、審判之日、諦羅西同之所受、較爾猶易堪也。葛法農乎、爾欲蒙陟而登青雲乎？爾必被降而入冥獄也。蓋設令爾中所行神蹟、行於瑣同、則彼邑至今應猶依然無恙耳。第吾語爾、審判之日、瑣同之所受、較爾猶易堪也。』

觀此可見天主固知何以脫善人於危難、而將惡人留待審判之日、以受顯罰。

夫吾人既認識真道、如再明知故犯、則不復有贖罪之祭、而其所餘者、惟觳觫待刑、以候吞滅悖逆之燎火而已。昔人干犯摩西律法、根據二三人之證言、尚且殺之無貸；何況蹂躪天主聖子、輕慢聖德所本之盟血、褻瀆恩寵所自之聖神、爾謂其所當受之刑罰、更堪設想乎！『伸冤在我、報應不爽。』『惟彼上主、黜陟厥民。』吾人固知作是語者之為誰也。遭受永生天主之譴怒、可怖也已！

予苟未來施訓於人、其人尚可無咎、今則末由辭其咎矣。凡惡予者、即惡吾父也。予若未在眾前行人所不能行之靈蹟、則彼猶可無咎、今彼既睹之、而依然惡予與吾父也！

是日也、天主將以耶穌基督審判人之隱私、如我福音所言也。

蓋人若曾蒙光照、曾味靈寵、曾受聖神、曾悟天主聖道之盡善盡美、與夫新興時代之偉大、而竟中途背棄聖道、若而人者、不啻親手重釘基督於十字架上、且當眾而辱之也。欲其再行悔過自新、尚可得乎？譬如地土、甘霖時降、飽受滋潤、而產百穀、有益於耕耘之人、則天主福焉。若其產荊棘蒺藜、則必被棄置、服咒詛結果亦惟有付諸一炬而已矣。

即現有天地、亦何嘗非憑天主之言而維持、以待不肖之徒受判被戮之日、而付諸一炬乎？

今爾剛愎自用、無悛於心、祇為積愆干怒；其時既至、必遭天主之譴怒。
