Having said this, she went back and called her sister Mary, saying in private,“ The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”

One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet

While He was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader’s house, saying,“ Your daughter is dead. Don’t bother the Teacher anymore.”

As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before Him, and asked Him,“ Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

When Mary came to where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet and told Him,“ Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died!”

“ I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

Then Martha said to Jesus,“ Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

“ Remove the stone,” Jesus said. Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Him,“ Lord, he’s already decaying. It’s been four days.”

Jesus said to her,“ I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live.

Jesus went with them, and when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell Him,“ Lord, don’t trouble Yourself, since I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be cured.

“ Go into the city to a certain man,” He said,“ and tell him,‘ The Teacher says: My time is near; I am celebrating the Passover at your place with My disciples.’”
