He lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains,

那人常住在坟茔里，没有人能捆住他，就是用铁链也不能；

这个人住在墓地里，没有人能捆住他，就是用铁链也不行。

那人常住在墳塋裏，沒有人能捆住他，就是用鐵鍊也不能；

其人素居於塚、雖以鏈亦莫能縛之、

其人素居塚、無有能以鐵索繫之者、

其人素居於墓、雖以鐵索繫之、亦徒然、

是人素居墓中、雖鐵索亦不足以繫之、

This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain.

The man lived in the tombs. No one could keep him tied up anymore. Not even a chain could hold him.

He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain,

This man lived in the burial caves and could no longer be restrained, even with a chain.

who sit among the graves, and spend nights in secret places; who eat pig’s meat, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

You shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass as oxen. Seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.’”This was fulfilled the same hour on Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.

and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”He answered him,“ Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.He asked his father,“ How long has it been since this has come to him?” He said,“ From childhood.Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.”
