“ Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor?Has his faithful love ceased forever? Is his promise at an end for all generations?Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” SelahSo I say,“ I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”

At noon Elijah mocked them. He said,“ Shout loudly, for he’s a god! Maybe he’s thinking it over; maybe he has wandered away; or maybe he’s on the road. Perhaps he’s sleeping and will wake up!”They shouted loudly, and cut themselves with knives and spears, according to their custom, until blood gushed over them.All afternoon they kept on raving until the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no sound; no one answered, no one paid attention.

For the LORD has called you, like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit, a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,” says your God.“ I deserted you for a brief moment, but I will take you back with abundant compassion.In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting love,” says the LORD your Redeemer.

LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide in times of trouble?In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue their victims; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.

So the disciples came and woke him up, saying,“ Lord, save us! We’re going to die!”

Jacob, why do you say, and Israel, why do you assert,“ My way is hidden from the LORD, and my claim is ignored by my God”?Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding.

Zion says,“ The LORD has abandoned me; the Lord has forgotten me!”“ Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the child of her womb? Even if these forget, yet I will not forget you.Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.

Look down from heaven and see from your lofty home— holy and beautiful. Where is your zeal and your might? Your yearning and your compassion are withheld from me.

Wake up, wake up! Arm of the LORD, clothe yourself with strength. Wake up as in days past, as in generations long ago. Wasn’t it you who hacked Rahab to pieces, who pierced the sea monster?Wasn’t it you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the sea-bed into a road for the redeemed to pass over?

Wake up, LORD! Why are you sleeping? Get up! Don’t reject us forever!Why do you hide and forget our affliction and oppression?

Therefore, he had to be like his brothers and sisters in every way, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in matters pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
