當時，耶穌離開眾人，進了屋子。他的門徒進前來，說：「請把田間雜草的比喻講給我們聽。」他回答：「那撒好種的就是人子，田地就是世界，好種就是天國之子，雜草就是那惡者之子，撒雜草的仇敵就是魔鬼，收割的時候就是世代的終結，收割的人就是天使。正如把雜草拔出來用火焚燒，世代的終結也要如此。人子要差遣他的使者，把一切使人跌倒的和作惡的從他國裏挑出來，丟在火爐裏，在那裏要哀哭切齒了。那時，義人要在他們父的國裏發出光來，像太陽一樣。有耳的，就應當聽！」

於是，他從摩西和眾先知起，凡經上所指着自己的話都給他們作了解釋。

耶穌獨自一人的時候，跟隨他的人和十二使徒問他這些比喻的意思。

耶穌離開眾人，進了屋子，門徒就問他這比喻的意思。耶穌對他們說：「你們也是這樣不明白嗎？難道你們不了解，凡從外面進去的不能玷污人嗎？因為不是進入他的心，而是進入他的肚子，又排入廁所。」（這是說，各樣的食物都是潔淨的。）耶穌又說：「從人裏面出來的，那才玷污人；因為從人心裏發出種種惡念，如淫亂、偷盜、兇殺、姦淫、貪婪、邪惡、詭詐、淫蕩、嫉妒、毀謗、驕傲、狂妄。這一切的惡都是從裏面出來，且能玷污人。」

門徒問耶穌這比喻是甚麼意思。他說：「上帝國的奧祕只讓你們知道，至於別人，就用比喻，要他們看也看不見，聽也不明白。」
