Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him saying,“ Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”He answered,“ The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.The field is the world and the good seed are the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.As the weeds are collected and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of the age.The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everything that causes sin as well as all lawbreakers.They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The one who has ears had better listen!

Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things written about himself in all the scriptures.

When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

Then he said to them,“ These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.”Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures,and said to them,“ Thus it stands written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,

Now when Jesus had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about the parable.He said to them,“ Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?For it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and then goes out into the sewer.”( This means all foods are clean.)He said,“ What comes out of a person defiles him.For from within, out of the human heart, come evil ideas, sexual immorality, theft, murder,adultery, greed, evil, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, pride, and folly.All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

Then his disciples asked him what this parable meant.He said,“ You have been given the opportunity to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that although they see they may not see, and although they hear they may not understand.
