但那些想要发财的人，就陷在迷惑、落在网罗和许多无知有害的私欲里，叫人沉在败坏和灭亡中。贪财是万恶之根。有人贪恋钱财，就被引诱离了真道，用许多愁苦把自己刺透了。

你要嘱咐那些今世富足的人，不要自高，也不要倚靠无定的钱财；只要倚靠那厚赐百物给我们享受的神。

不要爱世界和世界上的事。人若爱世界，爱父的心就不在他里面了。因为，凡世界上的事，就像肉体的情欲、眼目的情欲，并今生的骄傲，都不是从父来的，乃是从世界来的。这世界和其上的情欲都要过去，惟独遵行神旨意的，是永远常存。

你们存这样的心，从今以后就可以不从人的情欲，只从神的旨意在世度余下的光阴。因为往日随从外邦人的心意行邪淫、恶欲、醉酒、荒宴、群饮，并可恶拜偶像的事，时候已经够了。

应当一无挂虑，只要凡事藉着祷告、祈求，和感谢，将你们所要的告诉神。

耶稣对门徒说：“我实在告诉你们，财主进天国是难的。

你们不要求吃什么，喝什么，也不要挂心；这都是外邦人所求的。你们必须用这些东西，你们的父是知道的。

“你们要谨慎，恐怕因贪食、醉酒，并今生的思虑累住你们的心，那日子就如同网罗忽然临到你们；

凡属我不结果子的枝子，他就剪去；凡结果子的，他就修理干净，使枝子结果子更多。

我为我葡萄园所做之外，还有什么可做的呢？我指望结好葡萄，怎么倒结了野葡萄呢？

他刨挖园子，捡去石头，栽种上等的葡萄树，在园中盖了一座楼，又凿出压酒池；指望结好葡萄，反倒结了野葡萄。

贪爱银子的，不因得银子知足；贪爱丰富的，也不因得利益知足。这也是虚空。货物增添，吃的人也增添，物主得什么益处呢？不过眼看而已！劳碌的人不拘吃多吃少，睡得香甜；富足人的丰满却不容他睡觉。我见日光之下有一宗大祸患，就是财主积存资财，反害自己。因遭遇祸患，这些资财就消灭；那人若生了儿子，手里也一无所有。他怎样从母胎赤身而来，也必照样赤身而去；他所劳碌得来的，手中分毫不能带去。他来的情形怎样，他去的情形也怎样。这也是一宗大祸患。他为风劳碌有什么益处呢？

自己心里思想说：‘我的出产没有地方收藏，怎么办呢？’又说：‘我要这么办：要把我的仓房拆了，另盖更大的，在那里好收藏我一切的粮食和财物，然后要对我的灵魂说：灵魂哪，你有许多财物积存，可作多年的费用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快乐吧！’神却对他说：‘无知的人哪，今夜必要你的灵魂；你所预备的要归谁呢？’凡为自己积财，在神面前却不富足的，也是这样。”

耶稣回答说：“马大！马大！你为许多的事思虑烦扰，

有人孤单无二，无子无兄，竟劳碌不息，眼目也不以钱财为足。他说：“我劳劳碌碌，刻苦自己，不享福乐，到底是为谁呢？”这也是虚空，是极重的劳苦。

你岂要定睛在虚无的钱财上吗？因钱财必长翅膀，如鹰向天飞去。

你们若充充足足地有这几样，就必使你们在认识我们的主耶稣基督上不至于闲懒不结果子了。

众人一口同音地推辞。头一个说：‘我买了一块地，必须去看看。请你准我辞了。’又有一个说：‘我买了五对牛，要去试一试。请你准我辞了。’又有一个说：‘我才娶了妻，所以不能去。’

这样的人在你们的爱席上与你们同吃的时候，正是礁石。他们作牧人，只知喂养自己，无所惧怕；是没有雨的云彩，被风飘荡；是秋天没有果子的树，死而又死，连根被拔出来；

现在斧子已经放在树根上，凡不结好果子的树就砍下来，丢在火里。

因为底马贪爱现今的世界，就离弃我往帖撒罗尼迦去了；革勒士往加拉太去；提多往挞马太去；

就如一块田地，吃过屡次下的雨水，生长菜蔬，合乎耕种的人用，就从神得福；若长荆棘和蒺藜，必被废弃，近于咒诅，结局就是焚烧。
