耶稣问他们：“在安息日可以行善还是作恶，救命还是害命？”他们却不做声。

復問眾曰：『禮日當行善乎？抑作惡乎？救生乎？抑戕生乎？』眾皆嘿然不答。

Then Jesus asked them,“ Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

Then Jesus asked them,“ What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we kill?” But no one answered.

And he said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then he turned to his critics and asked,“ Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.

Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And He* said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”

A man was there who had a withered hand. And they asked Jesus,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” so that they could accuse him.He said to them,“ Would not any one of you, if he had one sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, take hold of it and lift it out?How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Now one Sabbath when Jesus went to dine at the house of a leader of the Pharisees, they were watching him closely.There right in front of him was a man suffering from dropsy.So Jesus asked the experts in religious law and the Pharisees,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”But they remained silent. So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him away.Then he said to them,“ Which of you, if you have a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?”

Then he said to them,“ The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.For this reason the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Then he placed his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.But the president of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the crowd,“ There are six days on which work should be done! So come and be healed on those days, and not on the Sabbath day.”Then the Lord answered him,“ You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from its stall, and lead it to water?Then shouldn’t this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be released from this imprisonment on the Sabbath day?”When he said this all his adversaries were humiliated, but the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things he was doing.

But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

For I delight in faithfulness, not simply in sacrifice; I delight in acknowledging God, not simply in whole burnt offerings.
