耶稣问他们：“在安息日可以行善还是作恶，救命还是害命？”他们却不做声。

復問眾曰：『禮日當行善乎？抑作惡乎？救生乎？抑戕生乎？』眾皆嘿然不答。

Then Jesus asked them,“ Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

Then Jesus asked them,“ What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we kill?” But no one answered.

And he said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then he turned to his critics and asked,“ Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.

And He* said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent.

He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”

There he saw a man who had a shriveled hand, and in order to accuse him they asked him,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”He replied to them,“ Who among you, if he had a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, wouldn’t take hold of it and lift it out?A person is worth far more than a sheep; so it is lawful to do what is good on the Sabbath.”

One Sabbath, when he went in to eat at the house of one of the leading Pharisees, they were watching him closely.There in front of him was a man whose body was swollen with fluid.In response, Jesus asked the law experts and the Pharisees,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”But they kept silent. He took the man, healed him, and sent him away.And to them, he said,“ Which of you whose son or ox falls into a well, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”

Then he told them,“ The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

Then he laid his hands on her, and instantly she was restored and began to glorify God.But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, responded by telling the crowd,“ There are six days when work should be done; therefore come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.”But the Lord answered him and said,“ Hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you untie his ox or donkey from the feeding trough on the Sabbath and lead it to water?Satan has bound this woman, a daughter of Abraham, for eighteen years— shouldn’t she be untied from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”When he had said these things, all his adversaries were humiliated, but the whole crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things he was doing.

But they were silent, because on the way they had been arguing with one another about who was the greatest.

For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
