Then Jesus asked them,“ Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

Then Jesus asked them,“ What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we kill?” But no one answered.

And he said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then he turned to his critics and asked,“ Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.

Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And He* said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”He said to them,“ If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” (niv)

One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body.Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.Then he asked them,“ If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?” (niv)

Then he said to them,“ The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” (niv)

Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people,“ There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”The Lord answered him,“ You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
