Then Judas, his betrayer, seeing that Jesus had been condemned, was full of remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said.“ What’s that to us?” they said.“ See to it yourself!”So he threw the silver into the temple and departed. Then he went and hanged himself.

Now when it was time for supper, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, to betray him.

But there are some among you who don’t believe.”( For Jesus knew from the beginning those who did not believe and the one who would betray him.)

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. A large mob with swords and clubs was with him from the chief priests and elders of the people.

“ Brothers and sisters, it was necessary that the Scripture be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David foretold about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.For he was one of our number and shared in this ministry.”Now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages. He fell headfirst, his body burst open and his intestines spilled out.This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama( that is,“ Field of Blood”).“ For it is written in the Book of Psalms: Let his dwelling become desolate; let no one live in it; and Let someone else take his position.“ Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—beginning from the baptism of John until the day he was taken up from us— from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of his resurrection.”So they proposed two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.Then they prayed,“ You, Lord, know everyone’s hearts; show which of these two you have chosento take the place in this apostolic ministry that Judas left to go where he belongs.”

Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot( who was about to betray him), said,“ Why wasn’t this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.

He was referring to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, one of the Twelve, because he was going to betray him.

Jesus replied,“ He’s the one I give the piece of bread to after I have dipped it.” When he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son.After Judas ate the piece of bread, Satan entered him. So Jesus told him,“ What you’re doing, do quickly.”None of those reclining at the table knew why he said this to him.Since Judas kept the money-bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him,“ Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give something to the poor.After receiving the piece of bread, he immediately left. And it was night.

Then one of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priestsand said,“ What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him.And from that time he started looking for a good opportunity to betray him.
