James son of Zebedee and his brother John( to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means“ sons of thunder”),

There were James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. Jesus gave them the name Boanerges. Boanerges means Sons of Thunder.

“ Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord,“ And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.

“ Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins.

Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.

When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed.

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying,“ Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”

Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said,“ Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus,“ But Lord, what about this man?”Jesus said to him,“ If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but,“ If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

And he said to me,“ You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”
