亞希突的兒子撒督和亞比亞他的兒子亞希米勒做祭司長，西萊雅做書記，

利未人拿坦業的兒子示瑪雅是書記。他在君王、首領、撒督祭司、亞比亞他的兒子亞希米勒、眾祭司和利未人的族長面前把抽出的名字記錄下來。

「你要用細麵粉烤十二個餅，每個餅用兩公斤細麵粉。你要把餅擺成兩行放在耶和華面前的純金桌子上，每行六個，每行餅上放一些純乳香，象徵這些餅是獻給耶和華的火祭。每逢安息日，要定期把餅擺在耶和華面前。這是以色列人要永遠遵守的約。這些餅要歸亞倫及其子孫。他們要在聖潔之處吃，因為在獻給耶和華的火祭中，這是至聖之物，要永遠歸祭司所有。」

大衛來到挪伯的祭司亞希米勒那裡。亞希米勒戰戰兢兢地出來迎接他，問道：「你為什麼獨自一人，沒有隨從呢？」

王對亞比亞他祭司說：「你回亞拿突的老家去吧。你本是該死的，但我念你在我父大衛面前抬過主耶和華的約櫃，曾經與我父親患難與共，才饒你一命。」所羅門就罷免了亞比亞他的職位，不許他再做耶和華的祭司。這事應驗了耶和華在示羅所說的有關以利家的預言。

亞倫父子們可以在會幕的門前吃這些祭肉和籃內的餅。他們要吃這些在授聖職時用來贖罪、使他們聖潔的祭物。但普通人不能吃，因為這些是聖物。

亞多尼雅與洗魯雅的兒子約押及祭司亞比亞他商議，二人都答應支持他。

於是，撒督和亞比亞他便把上帝的約櫃抬回耶路撒冷，留了下來。

亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他到基伊拉投奔大衛時，把以弗得也帶了去。

祭司撒督、亞比亞他和抬上帝約櫃的利未人都來了，他們把約櫃放下，讓城裡出來的人先走過去。

大衛知道了掃羅的計謀，便吩咐祭司亞比亞他把以弗得帶來，

所羅門王回答說：「為何只為亞多尼雅求書念女子雅比莎呢？你也為他求整個國家吧！他是我哥哥，又有亞比亞他祭司和洗魯雅的兒子約押支持。」

祭司撒督和亞比亞他都在那裡，你在宮內聽到什麼消息就告訴他們。

只有亞希米勒的一個兒子亞比亞他逃出去，投奔了大衛。亞比亞他把掃羅屠殺耶和華祭司的事告訴了大衛，大衛說：「那天我見以東人多益在那裡，就知道他一定會告訴掃羅。是我連累了你父親一家。
