亚希突的儿子撒督和亚比亚他的儿子亚希米勒做祭司长，西莱雅做书记，

利未人拿坦业的儿子示玛雅是书记。他在君王、首领、撒督祭司、亚比亚他的儿子亚希米勒、众祭司和利未人的族长面前把抽出的名字记录下来。

“你要用细面粉烤十二个饼，每个饼用两公斤细面粉。你要把饼摆成两行放在耶和华面前的纯金桌子上，每行六个，每行饼上放一些纯乳香，象征这些饼是献给耶和华的火祭。每逢安息日，要定期把饼摆在耶和华面前。这是以色列人要永远遵守的约。这些饼要归亚伦及其子孙。他们要在圣洁之处吃，因为在献给耶和华的火祭中，这是至圣之物，要永远归祭司所有。”

大卫来到挪伯的祭司亚希米勒那里。亚希米勒战战兢兢地出来迎接他，问道：“你为什么独自一人，没有随从呢？”

王对亚比亚他祭司说：“你回亚拿突的老家去吧。你本是该死的，但我念你在我父大卫面前抬过主耶和华的约柜，曾经与我父亲患难与共，才饶你一命。”所罗门就罢免了亚比亚他的职位，不许他再做耶和华的祭司。这事应验了耶和华在示罗所说的有关以利家的预言。

亚伦父子们可以在会幕的门前吃这些祭肉和篮内的饼。他们要吃这些在授圣职时用来赎罪、使他们圣洁的祭物。但普通人不能吃，因为这些是圣物。

亚多尼雅与洗鲁雅的儿子约押及祭司亚比亚他商议，二人都答应支持他。

于是，撒督和亚比亚他便把上帝的约柜抬回耶路撒冷，留了下来。

亚希米勒的儿子祭司亚比亚他到基伊拉投奔大卫时，把以弗得也带了去。

祭司撒督、亚比亚他和抬上帝约柜的利未人都来了，他们把约柜放下，让城里出来的人先走过去。

大卫知道了扫罗的计谋，便吩咐祭司亚比亚他把以弗得带来，

所罗门王回答说：“为何只为亚多尼雅求书念女子雅比莎呢？你也为他求整个国家吧！他是我哥哥，又有亚比亚他祭司和洗鲁雅的儿子约押支持。”

祭司撒督和亚比亚他都在那里，你在宫内听到什么消息就告诉他们。

只有亚希米勒的一个儿子亚比亚他逃出去，投奔了大卫。亚比亚他把扫罗屠杀耶和华祭司的事告诉了大卫，大卫说：“那天我见以东人多益在那里，就知道他一定会告诉扫罗。是我连累了你父亲一家。
