“ All right,” Jesus replied.“ Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”“ What!” they exclaimed.“ It has taken forty six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?”But when Jesus said“ this temple,” he meant his own body.After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.

Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

“ People of Israel, listen! “ I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.

When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out,“ It’s a ghost!”But Jesus spoke to them at once.“ Don’t be afraid,” he said.“ Take courage. I am here!”

“ Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are— the Holy One of God!”

You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth.

But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago.“ Then some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an amazing report.They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!Some of our men ran out to see, and sure enough, his body was gone, just as the women had said.”Then Jesus said to them,“ You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?”Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again.”

And he said,“ Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.

For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.Then the angel spoke to the women.“ Don’t be afraid!” he said.“ I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”

As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked,“ Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee,that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”Then they remembered that he had said this.

As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.So they kept it to themselves, but they often asked each other what he meant by“ rising from the dead.”
