When Paul had gathered a bundle of brushwood and was putting it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand.When the local people saw the creature hanging from Paul’s hand, they said to one another,“ No doubt this man is a murderer! Although he has escaped from the sea, Justice herself has not allowed him to live!”However, Paul shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm.But they were expecting that he was going to swell up or suddenly drop dead. So after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

The father of Publius lay sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and after praying, placed his hands on him and healed him.After this had happened, many of the people on the island who were sick also came and were healed.

But Peter sent them all outside, knelt down, and prayed. Turning to the body, he said,“ Tabitha, get up.” Then she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.He gave her his hand and helped her get up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her alive.This became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

Someone went out to the field to gather some herbs and found a wild vine. He picked some of its fruit, enough to fill up the fold of his robe. He came back, cut it up, and threw the slices into the stew pot, not knowing they were harmful.The stew was poured out for the men to eat. When they ate some of the stew, they cried out,“ Death is in the pot, O prophet!” They could not eat it.He said,“ Get some flour.” Then he threw it into the pot and said,“ Now pour some out for the men so they may eat.” There was no longer anything harmful in the pot.

Thus they even carried the sick out into the streets, and put them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by at least his shadow would fall on some of them.A crowd of people from the towns around Jerusalem also came together, bringing the sick and those troubled by unclean spirits. They were all being healed.
