經上說：「今天，你們如果聽見他的聲音，就不可硬著你們的心，如同在那悖逆的時候。」到底是誰聽見卻悖逆了呢？難道不是被摩西從埃及帶領出來的那一切人嗎？神又向誰發怒了四十年之久呢？難道不是那些犯了罪、屍首倒在曠野的人嗎？他又向誰起誓說，他們絕不能進入他的安息呢？難道不是向那些不肯信從的人嗎？這樣我們就看出來：他們不能進入，是因不信的緣故。

凡是我所愛的，我都責備、管教。所以你應當熱心，應當悔改。

因此，就像聖靈所說的：「今天，你們如果聽見他的聲音，就不可硬著你們的心，如同在那悖逆的時候，也像在那曠野試探的日子。

接著，耶穌開始斥責那些他曾經在其中行了許多神蹟的城市，因為那裡的人不肯悔改：

「你們不可硬著心，像在米利巴，在曠野中瑪撒的日子一樣；在那裡，你們的祖先儘管看見了我的作為，還是試探我、試驗我。四十年之久，我厭惡了那世代，我說：『他們是心裡迷失的子民，他們不認識我的道路。』因此我在怒氣中起誓：『他們絕不能進入我的安息。』」

耶穌說：「你們也是這樣無知嗎？你們難道不明白一切從外面進到人裡面的，不能使人汙穢嗎？

耶穌知道了，就說：「小信的人哪，你們為什麼彼此討論沒有帶餅的事呢？你們還不明白嗎？難道不記得那五個餅給五千人，你們收拾了幾個籃子的碎塊嗎？也不記得那七個餅給四千人，你們收拾了幾個筐子的碎塊嗎？你們怎麼不明白，我對你們說的不是餅的事，而是要你們提防法利賽人和撒都該人的酵母呢？」

耶穌回答說：「因為你們小信。我確實地告訴你們：如果你們有像一粒芥菜種子那樣的信仰，就是對這座山說『從這裡移到那裡！』它也將移開；而且在你們，將沒有不可能的事。

耶穌對他們說：「唉，你們這些無知的人哪！對於信靠先知們所說的一切話，你們的心太遲鈍了！

耶穌知道了，就問他們：「你們為什麼討論沒有餅的事呢？你們還不明白，還不領悟，還是硬著心嗎？你們有眼睛卻看不見，有耳朵卻聽不見嗎？難道不記得嗎？

然後他對多馬說：「把你的指頭伸到這裡來，看看我的手吧。伸出你的手來，放進我的肋旁吧。不要不信，而要信！」

那日，也就是一週的頭一天，傍晚的時候，門徒們所在地方的門戶已經關上了，因為他們怕那些猶太人。耶穌出現了，站在他們當中，對他們說：「願你們平安！」說了這話，他把手和肋旁給他們看。門徒們看見了主，就歡喜。
