Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,saying,‘ The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’”And they remembered His words.Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles.And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them.But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.

Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath( for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.

So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

They buried him in his own tomb, which he had made for himself in the City of David; and they laid him in the bed which was filled with spices and various ingredients prepared in a mixture of ointments. They made a very great burning for him.

She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.But the angel answered and said to the women,“ Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,“ Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.Then Jesus said to them,“ Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.

Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them,“ They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away— for it was very large.And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
