Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.”And they remembered His words,and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.Now these women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe the women.Nevertheless, Peter got up and ran to the tomb; and when he stooped and looked in, he* saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.

When evening had already come, since it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

Now beside the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Now then, since it was the day of preparation, to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath( for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews requested of Pilate that their legs be broken, and the bodies be taken away.

While He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the Leper, He was reclining at the table, and a woman came with an alabaster vial of very expensive perfume of pure nard. She broke the vial and poured the perfume over His head.

And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

They buried him in his own tomb which he had cut out for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the resting place which he had filled with spices of various kinds blended by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.

She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial.

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb.And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it.And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.The guards shook from fear of him and became like dead men.And the angel said to the women,“ Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you to Galilee. There you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to report to His disciples.And behold, Jesus met them and said,“ Rejoice!” And they came up and took hold of His feet, and worshiped Him.Then Jesus* said to them,“ Do not be afraid; go, bring word to My brothers to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where He was laid.

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene* came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and* saw the stone already removed from the tomb.So she* ran and* came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and* said to them,“ They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.”So Peter and the other disciple left, and they were going to the tomb.The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first;and he stooped to look in, and* saw the linen wrappings lying there; however he did not go in.So Simon Peter also* came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he* looked at the linen wrappings lying there,and the face cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself.So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb also entered then, and he saw and believed.For they did not yet understand the Scripture, that He must rise from the dead.So the disciples went away again to their own homes.

Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred litras weight.So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

It was a preparation day, and a Sabbath was about to begin.

And looking up, they* noticed that the stone had been rolled away; for it was extremely large.And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.
