雖然祂沒有做過殘暴之事，口中也沒有詭詐，人卻將祂與惡人同葬，祂死後葬在富人的墓穴。

耶穌又十分感動地來到墳墓前。那墳墓是個洞，洞口堵著一塊大石頭。

「你在這裡做什麼？你憑什麼在這裡為自己挖墳墓，在高處為自己挖墳墓，在磐石上為自己鑿安息之所？

途中她們彼此議論說：「誰能替我們滾開墓口那塊大石頭呢？」她們抬頭一看，那塊大石頭已經滾到一旁。

突然，大地劇烈地震動，上帝的天使從天而降，推開堵著墓穴的石頭，坐在上面。

他把耶穌的遺體從十字架上取下來，用細麻布裹好，然後安放在一個從岩壁上鑿出的新墓穴裡。

事後，有一個名叫約瑟的亞利馬太人請求彼拉多讓他為耶穌收屍。他因為畏懼猶太人，只是暗中做耶穌的門徒。彼拉多批准了，他就把耶穌的遺體領去。曾經夜訪耶穌的尼哥德慕也來了，他帶來了沒藥和沉香調成的香料，重約三十四公斤。他們按照猶太人殯葬的習俗，用細麻布加上香料把耶穌的遺體裹好。在耶穌被釘十字架的地方有一個園子，裡邊有一座新墳墓，從來沒有安葬過人。因為那天是猶太人的預備日，這座新墳墓也在附近，他們就把耶穌安放在那裡。

約瑟領了遺體，用乾淨的細麻布裹好，安放在他為自己在岩壁上鑿出的新墓穴裡，並滾來一塊大石頭封閉墓穴的入口，然後離去。
