And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came,and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said,“ You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.”But he denied it, saying,“ I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway and the rooster crowed.And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders,“ This man is one of them.”But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter,“ Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear,“ I do not know this man of whom you speak.”And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.

But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.

And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,“ How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again,“ Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him,“ Then who can be saved?”Jesus looked at them and said,“ With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,“ Rulers of the people and elders,if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing before you well.This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
