在凯撒利亚有一个人名叫哥尼流，是意大利营的百夫长。

耶稣进了迦百农，有一个百夫长进前来，求他，说：“主啊，我的僮仆瘫痪了，躺在家里，非常痛苦。”耶稣说：“我去医治他。”百夫长回答：“主啊，你到舍下来，我不敢当；只要你说一句话，我的僮仆就会痊愈。因为我在人的权下，也有兵在我以下。我对这个说：‘去！’他就去；对那个说：‘来！’他就来；对我的仆人说：‘做这事！’他就去做。”耶稣听了就很惊讶，对跟从的人说：“我实在告诉你们，这么大的信心，就是在以色列，我也没有见过。

彼拉多诧异耶稣已经死了，就叫百夫长来，问他耶稣是不是死了很久；既从百夫长得知实情，就把耶稣的身体赐给约瑟。

但百夫长要救保罗，不准他们任意而行，就吩咐会游水的，跳下水去，先上岸；
