In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself!

司祭諸長及法利塞人、乃召集會議、僉曰：『斯人多行異蹟、吾輩將何以處之？若聽其所為、則眾庶咸將信之、而羅馬人必至而奪吾土吾民矣。』其中有名蓋法者、值歲之總司祭也、告眾曰：『汝曹無知、盍思一人代萬眾死、以免舉國淪亡、於汝曹固有益乎？』此言非由己出、實緣渠適為本歲總司祭、故於無意中豫言耶穌之將為民犧牲；然奚止為一國之民而已哉？即普天率土之天主子女、亦將會而集之、使成一體。

何列邦之擾攘兮。何萬民之猖狂。世酋蠭起兮。跋扈飛揚。共圖背叛天主兮。反抗受命之王。曰吾儕豈長甘羈絆兮。盍解其縛而脫其繮。在天者必大笑兮。笑蜉蝣之不知自量。

倘天主之意、欲使爾因行善而受苦、不猶愈於因作惡而受苦乎？蓋基督亦曾為眾人之罪而死矣。彼以義者之身、而為諸不義者舍命、欲引吾人歸順天主耳。然彼之肉身雖被處死、而其神靈則生、
