大司祭及經生輩亦相與肆其嘲弄曰：『何彼之善於救人、而拙於救己也！

In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself!

The leading priests and teachers of religious law also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself!

So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,“ He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet—I can count all my bones— they stare and gloat over me;

So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the Council and said,“ What are we to do? For this man performs many signs.If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all.Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,“ Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.

For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

And Jesus answered them,“ The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
