They came to a place called Golgotha( which means“ the place of the skull”).There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews. Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their headsand saying,“ You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him. (niv)

Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull( which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others— one on each side and Jesus in the middle.Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate,“ Do not write‘ The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.Pilate answered,“ What I have written, I have written.”When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.“ Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another.“ Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,“ They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So this is what the soldiers did.Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her,“ Woman, here is your son,”and to the disciple,“ Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him.Jesus turned and said to them,“ Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say,‘ Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’Then“‘ they will say to the mountains,“ Fall on us!” and to the hills,“ Cover us!”’For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals— one on his right, the other on his left.Jesus said,“ Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said,“ He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegarand said,“ If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews. (niv)
