When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed to the ground before the LORD.

The entire royal staff at the King’s Gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, because the king had commanded this to be done for him. But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.The members of the royal staff at the King’s Gate asked Mordecai,“ Why are you disobeying the king’s command?”When they had warned him day after day and he still would not listen to them, they told Haman in order to see if Mordecai’s actions would be tolerated, since he had told them he was a Jew.When Haman saw that Mordecai was not bowing down or paying him homage, he was filled with rage.

This is what the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people, to a servant of rulers:“ Kings will see, princes will stand up, and they will all bow down because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel— and he has chosen you.”

The men who were holding Jesus started mocking and beating him.

But I will leave seven thousand in Israel— every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.
