“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

“ Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate.“ You have said so,” Jesus replied.

“ Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying,“ So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,come down from the cross and save yourself!”In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself!Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegarand said,“ If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon.“ Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.But they shouted,“ Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”“ Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.“ We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said,“ What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?”
