Pilate asked them,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”

“ Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder,“ Crucify him!”

“ Why? What wrong has he done?” asked Pilate. But they shouted even louder,“ Crucify him!”

And Pilate said to them,“ Why? what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more,“ Crucify him.”

“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”

Pilate said to them,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted all the more,“ Crucify him!”

But Pilate said to them,“ Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more,“ Crucify Him!”

Then Pilate said to them,“ Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more,“ Crucify Him!”

And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, Crucify him.

Then Pilate said to them,“ Why? What has He done wrong?” But they shouted,“ Crucify Him!” all the more.

Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

Pilate said to them,“ Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly,“ Crucify him!”

And we rightly so, for we are getting what we deserve for what we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

When the chief priests and their officers saw him, they shouted out,“ Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate said,“ You take him and crucify him! Certainly I find no reason for an accusation against him!”

They intended to bury him with criminals, but he ended up in a rich man’s tomb, because he had committed no violent deeds, nor had he spoken deceitfully.

For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God and said,“ Certainly this man was innocent!”

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds,“ I find no basis for an accusation against this man.”

The crowd was listening to him until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted,“ Away with this man from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live!”While they were screaming and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust in the air,

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

But they kept on shouting,“ Crucify, crucify him!”

and said to them,“ You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. When I examined him before you, I did not find this man guilty of anything you accused him of doing.Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, he has done nothing deserving death.

But they were insistent, demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

When they heard these things, they became furious and ground their teeth at him.But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently toward heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.“ Look!” he said.“ I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”But they covered their ears, shouting out with a loud voice, and rushed at him with one intent.

saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood!” But they said,“ What is that to us? You take care of it yourself!”

He asked,“ Why? What wrong has he done?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”When Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but that instead a riot was starting, he took some water, washed his hands before the crowd and said,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood. You take care of it yourselves!”In reply all the people said,“ Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

From this point on, Pilate tried to release him. But the Jewish leaders shouted out,“ If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar! Everyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar!”When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in the place called“ The Stone Pavement”( Gabbatha in Aramaic).( Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover, about noon.) Pilate said to the Jewish leaders,“ Look, here is your king!”Then they shouted out,“ Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked,“ Shall I crucify your king?” The high priests replied,“ We have no king except Caesar!”

Pilate asked,“ What is truth?” When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders and announced,“ I find no basis for an accusation against him.

Now when the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and what took place, they were extremely terrified and said,“ Truly this one was God’s Son!”

but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.

Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head. Those who want to destroy me, my enemies for no reason, outnumber me. They make me repay what I did not steal!

As he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent a message to him:“ Have nothing to do with that innocent man; I have suffered greatly as a result of a dream about him today.”

But when they recognized that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison,“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” for about two hours.
