“ Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder,“ Crucify him!”

“ Why? What wrong has he done?” asked Pilate. But they shouted even louder,“ Crucify him!”

“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”

Pilate said to them,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted all the more,“ Crucify him!”

And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, Crucify him.

Then Pilate said to them,“ Why? What has He done wrong?” But they shouted,“ Crucify Him!” all the more.

Pilate asked them,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”

And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”

When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out,“ Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them,“ Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.”

And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying,“ Certainly this man was innocent!”

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds,“ I find no guilt in this man.”

Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said,“ Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live.”And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

but they kept shouting,“ Crucify, crucify him!”

and said to them,“ You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.

But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him.But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.And he said,“ Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.

saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said,“ What is that to us? See to it yourself.”

And he said,“ Why? what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more,“ Let him be crucified!”So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”And all the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”

From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out,“ If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.”So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha.Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews,“ Behold your King!”They cried out,“ Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them,“ Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered,“ We have no king but Caesar.”

Pilate said to him,“ What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them,“ I find no guilt in him.

When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said,“ Truly this was the Son of God!”

but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?

Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him,“ Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”

But when they recognized that he was a Jew, for about two hours they all cried out with one voice,“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
