耶穌對他說：「我實在告訴你，就在今天夜裏，雞叫兩遍以先，你要三次不認我。」

彼得卻不承認，說：「我不知道，也不明白你說的是甚麼。」於是出來，到了前院，雞就叫了。

我思想我所行的道，就轉步歸向你的法度。我急忙遵守你的命令，並不遲延。

彼得就發咒起誓地說：「我不認得那個人。」立時，雞就叫了。彼得想起耶穌所說的話：「雞叫以先，你要三次不認我。」他就出去痛哭。

那時，你們必追想你們的惡行和你們不善的作為，就因你們的罪孽和可憎的事厭惡自己。

其中所逃脫的就必逃脫，各人因自己的罪孽在山上發出悲聲，好像谷中的鴿子哀鳴。

大衛數點百姓以後，就心中自責，禱告耶和華說：「我行這事大有罪了。耶和華啊，求你除掉僕人的罪孽，因我所行的甚是愚昧。」

他醒悟過來，就說：『我父親有多少的雇工，口糧有餘，我倒在這裏餓死嗎？我要起來，到我父親那裏去，向他說：父親！我得罪了天，又得罪了你；從今以後，我不配稱為你的兒子，把我當作一個雇工吧！』

他就出去痛哭。

耶穌說：「我實在告訴你，今夜雞叫以先，你要三次不認我。」

我聽見以法蓮為自己悲歎說：你責罰我，我便受責罰，像不慣負軛的牛犢一樣。求你使我回轉，我便回轉，因為你是耶和華－我的神。我回轉以後就真正懊悔；受教以後就拍腿歎息；我因擔當幼年的凌辱就抱愧蒙羞。耶和華說：以法蓮是我的愛子嗎？是可喜悅的孩子嗎？我每逢責備他，仍深顧念他；所以我的心腸戀慕他；我必要憐憫他。

彼得說：「你這個人！我不曉得你說的是甚麼！」正說話之間，雞就叫了。

因為依着神的意思憂愁，就生出沒有後悔的懊悔來，以致得救；但世俗的憂愁是叫人死。

好使你在我赦免你一切所行的時候，心裏追念，自覺抱愧，又因你的羞辱就不再開口。這是主耶和華說的。」
