伯鐸祿不承曰：『吾不識斯人、亦莫明爾之所云。』遂出至前院、雞初鳴。

But he denied it.“ I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.

我們若堅忍到底，也必和他同掌王權；我們若否認他，他也必否認我們；我們若不信他，他仍舊是可信的；因為他不能否認自己。』

西門彼得問耶穌說：『主啊，你往哪裏去呢？』耶穌回答說：『我所去的地方、你們現今不能跟着我，後來就會跟着。』彼得對耶穌說：『主啊，為甚麼我現在不能跟着你啊？連我的性命、我都要替你放棄呢！』耶穌回答說：『你的性命、你要替我放棄！我實實在在地告訴你，雞還未叫，你必定要三次否認我了。』

他出去到了門廊，另有一個女的看見他、就對那裏的人說，『這個人、素來也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的。』彼得又否認，並帶着起誓說：『我不認識那個人。』

彼得對耶穌說：『眾人縱然會絆跌，我總不絆跌！』耶穌對彼得說：『我實在告訴你，你、就在今天、這一夜裏、雞叫兩遍以前，就要三次否認我了。』彼得卻極力地說：『我就使得跟你同死，也決不否認你。』眾人也都這樣說。

立刻地雞就叫了第二遍。彼得就回想耶穌怎樣對他說：『雞叫兩遍以前，你就要三次否認我了』；他一想起，就哭了。
