那些僕人和差役因為寒冷生了炭火，站着烤火；彼得也同他們在一起、站着烤火。

那時祭司長和民間的長老聚集在稱為該亞法的大祭司院子裏，

西門彼得正站着烤火。有人就對他說：『你、不也是他的一個門徒麼？』彼得否認說：『我不是』。

西門彼得跟着耶穌，另一個門徒也跟着。那門徒是跟大祭司認識的；他同耶穌進了大祭司的院子：彼得卻在門外站着。當下跟大祭司認識的那另一個門徒出來，向看門的女人說一聲，就帶彼得進去。

耶穌在劇烈的精神掙扎中，禱告越迫切；他的汗珠就像大血點滴落在地上。

彼得對耶穌說：『眾人縱然會絆跌，我總不絆跌！』耶穌對彼得說：『我實在告訴你，你、就在今天、這一夜裏、雞叫兩遍以前，就要三次否認我了。』彼得卻極力地說：『我就使得跟你同死，也決不否認你。』眾人也都這樣說。

見彼得在烤火，就瞪了他一眼說：『你、素來也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的呀！彼得否認說：『我不知道，也不明白你說甚麼。』就出來，到了前院。

以利亞聽見，就用外衣蒙着臉，出來站在洞口；忽有聲音向他說：『以利亞啊，你在這裏作甚麼？』

在那裏他進了一個洞，就住宿在那裏。那時永恆主的話又傳與他，對他說：『以利亞啊，你在這裏作甚麼？』

彼得從遠處跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子；進到裏面，就同差役坐着，要看結局怎樣。

要儆醒，要禱告，免得入了試誘；心靈固然切願着，肉體卻軟弱。』

他們在院子當中生了火、一同坐着；彼得也坐在他們當中。有一個使女看見彼得向着火光而坐，就定睛看他說：『這個人素來也是同那人一夥的。』

或是渡過約但河渡口，到了迦得和基列地。那時掃羅還在吉甲；眾民都震顫發抖、跟從着他。
