他回到门徒那里，见他们睡着了，就对彼得说：“怎么样？你们不能同我警醒一小时吗？

他们在荣光里显现，谈论耶稣去世的事，就是他在耶路撒冷将要完成的事。彼得和他的同伴都打盹，但一清醒，就看见耶稣的荣光和与他一起站着的那两个人。

你们要仔细想想这位忍受了罪人如此顶撞的耶稣，你们就不致心灰意懒了。

押沙龙对户筛说：“你这样做是忠诚对待你的朋友吗？为什么不与你的朋友同去呢？”

彼得说：“虽然众人跌倒，但我不会。”耶稣对他说：“我实在告诉你，今天夜里，鸡叫两遍以前，你要三次不认我。”彼得却极力地说：“我就是必须和你同死，也绝不会不认你。”所有的门徒都是这样说。

他又来，见他们睡着了，因为他们的眼睛很困倦；他们也不知道怎么回答他。他第三次来对他们说：“现在你们仍在睡觉安歇吗？够了，时候到了。看哪，人子被出卖在罪人手里了。

祷告完了，他起来，到门徒那里，见他们因为忧愁都睡着了，就对他们说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？起来祷告，免得陷入试探！”

新郎迟延的时候，她们都打盹，睡着了。

“你与步行的人同跑，尚且觉得累，怎能与马赛跑呢？你在安全之地尚且会跌倒，在约旦河边的丛林要怎么办呢？

所以，我们不要沉睡，像别人一样，总要警醒谨慎。因为睡了的人是在夜间睡，醉了的人是在夜间醉。但既然我们属于白昼，就应当谨慎，把信和爱当作护心镜遮胸，把得救的盼望当作头盔戴上。

船长到他那里，对他说：“你怎么还在沉睡呢？起来，求告你的神明，或者神明顾念我们，使我们不致灭亡。”
