Then he returned and found the disciples asleep. He said to Peter,“ Simon, are you asleep? Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?

及返、見諸徒皆睡、呼伯鐸祿曰：『西門睡耶？竟弗克儆守半晷！

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Simon,” he said to Peter,“ are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?

Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter,“ Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?

They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with him.

Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.

“ Is this the way you treat your friend David?” Absalom asked him.“ Why aren’t you with him?”

Peter said to him,“ Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will.”Jesus replied,“ I tell you the truth, Peter— this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.”“ No!” Peter declared emphatically.“ Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the others vowed the same.

When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open. And they didn’t know what to say.When he returned to them the third time, he said,“ Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But no— the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

At last he stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief.“ Why are you sleeping?” he asked them.“ Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.”

When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“ If racing against mere men makes you tired, how will you race against horses? If you stumble and fall on open ground, what will you do in the thickets near the Jordan?

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk.But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.

So the captain went down after him.“ How can you sleep at a time like this?” he shouted.“ Get up and pray to your god! Maybe he will pay attention to us and spare our lives.”
