Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Simon,” he said to Peter,“ are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?

耶稣回到门徒那里，看见他们都睡着了，就对彼得说：“你们连一个小时也不能同我警醒吗？

他们在荣光里显现，谈论他去世的事，就是他在耶路撒冷将要完成的。彼得和同伴都在打盹。醒过来之后，就看见他的荣光，并与他站在一起的那两个人。

这位忍受罪人那样顶撞的耶稣，你们要仔细思想，免得疲倦灰心。

押沙龙问户筛：“你就以这样的‘慈爱’待你的朋友吗？你为什么没有与你的朋友一同走呢？”

彼得对他说：“就算所有的人都后退，我却不会。”耶稣对他说：“我实在告诉你，就在今天晚上，鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我。”彼得更坚决地说：“就算必须与你一同死，我也决不会不认你！”众人也都这样说。

他再回来的时候，看见门徒睡着了；因为他们十分疲倦，不知道该怎样回答他。耶稣第三次回来，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉休息吗？够了，时候到了，看哪，人子要被交在罪人手里了。

他祷告完了，就起来到门徒那里，看见他们因为忧愁都睡着了，就说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？起来祷告！免得陷入试探。”

新郎很晚还没有到，她们都打瞌睡，而且睡着了。

耶和华说：“如果你与徒步的人同跑，尚且觉得疲倦，怎能跟马赛跑呢？你在平安稳妥之地，尚且跌倒，在约旦河边的丛林怎么办呢？

所以，我们不要沉睡像别人一样，总要警醒谨慎。因为睡觉的人是在晚上睡，醉酒的人是在晚上醉；但我们既然属于白昼，就应当谨慎，披上信和爱的胸甲，戴上救恩的盼望作头盔。

船长走到他面前，对他说：“你怎么啦！睡得那么熟？快起来，求告你的神吧！或者神会记念我们，使我们不至于丧命！”
