The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying,“ My Father, if this cup can’t pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done.”He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.Then he came to his disciples, and said to them,“ Sleep on now, and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Arise, let’s be going. Behold, he who betrays me is at hand.”

Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don’t answer; in the night season, and am not silent.

The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death came on me.In my distress I called on Yahweh, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.

He came out and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him.When he was at the place, he said to them,“ Pray that you don’t enter into temptation.”He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed,saying,“ Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of grief,and said to them,“ Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out, and said to them,“ Who are you looking for?”They answered him,“ Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them,“ I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.When therefore he said to them,“ I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.Again therefore he asked them,“ Who are you looking for?” They said,“ Jesus of Nazareth.”Jesus answered,“ I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke,“ Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.Jesus therefore said to Peter,“ Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
