Why do the nations rage, And the peoples meditate a vain thing?The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, saying,Let us break their bonds asunder, And cast away their cords from us.He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh: The Lord will have them in derision.Then will he speak unto them in his wrath, And vex them in his sore displeasure:

But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: In the balances they will go up; They are together lighter than vanity.

So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciples.Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas;and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among the people.

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs.

They only consult to thrust him down from his dignity; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly.[ Selah

Thou lovest evil more than good, And lying rather than to speak righteousness.[ Selah

When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
