如果不是主减少那些日子，没有一个人可以存活；但是为了自己的选民，他必使那些日子减少。

主若不減其時日、則血氣之倫、將無遺孑！惟為選民之故、主必減之耳。

耶和华这样说：“人怎样发现累累葡萄中有新酒的时候，就说：‘不要毁灭它，因为有好处在里面’，我因我的众仆人的缘故也必照样而行，不把它们全都毁灭。我要从雅各中领出后裔，从犹大中领出承受我众山的；我拣选的人必承受那地为业，我的众仆人必在那里居住。

如果那些日子不减少，没有一个人可以存活；但是为了选民，那些日子必会减少。

就福音来说，因你们的缘故，他们是仇敌；就拣选来说，因祖宗的缘故，他们是蒙爱的。因为神的恩赏和呼召是决不会反悔的。正如你们从前不顺服神，现在却因着他们的不顺服，你们倒蒙了怜悯；照样，他们因着你们所蒙的怜悯，现在也不顺服，使他们现在也可以蒙怜悯。因为神把所有的人都圈在不顺服之中，为了要怜悯所有的人。

全地的人必有三分之二被除灭，只有三分之一存留下来。（这是耶和华的宣告。）我必使这三分之一经火试炼。我要炼净他们，像炼净银子一样；我要试炼他们，像试炼金子一样。他们必呼求我的名，我必应允他们。我要说：‘他们是我的子民。’他们也要说：‘耶和华是我们的神。’”

境内剩下的人，虽然只有十分之一，也必被消灭。但正如栗树和橡树，虽然被砍下，树的余干还存留在那里。这圣洁的苗裔，就是这国的余干。”

至于他们，如果不是继续不信，他们仍然会被接上去，因为神能够把他们再接上去。你这从野生的橄榄树上砍下来的，尚且可以不自然地接在栽种的橄榄树上，那些本来就有的树枝，不是更能够接在原来的橄榄树上吗？

因此，现在也是这样，按着恩典的拣选，还有剩下的余数。既然是靠着恩典，就不再是由于行为了；不然的话，恩典就不再是恩典了。那又怎么样呢？以色列人恳切寻找的，他们没有得到，蒙拣选的人倒得着了。其余的人都成了顽固的，

若不是万军之耶和华给我们留下一些生还者，我们早已像所多玛、蛾摩拉一样了。
