For you will be given what to say at that hour,because it isn’t you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you.“ Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.

But they were unable to stand up against his wisdom and the Spirit by whom he was speaking.

Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and said to them,“ Rulers of the people and elders:If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a disabled man, by what means he was healed,let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing here before you healthy.This Jesus is the stone rejected by you builders, which has become the cornerstone.There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.”When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.And since they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in opposition.After they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, they conferred among themselves,saying,“ What should we do with these men? For an obvious sign has been done through them, clear to everyone living in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.But so that this does not spread any further among the people, let’s threaten them against speaking to anyone in this name again.”So they called for them and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.Peter and John answered them,“ Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”After threatening them further, they released them. They found no way to punish them because the people were all giving glory to God over what had been done.For this sign of healing had been performed on a man over forty years old.

We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.

But I protested,“ Oh no, Lord GOD! Look, I don’t know how to speak since I am only a youth.”Then the LORD said to me: Do not say,“ I am only a youth,” for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you.Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to rescue you. This is the LORD’s declaration.Then the LORD reached out his hand, touched my mouth, and told me: I have now filled your mouth with my words.

This was not made known to people in other generations as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king,“ Nebuchadnezzar, we don’t need to give you an answer to this question.If the God we serve exists, then he can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and he can rescue us from the power of you, the king.But even if he does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”

The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me, his word was on my tongue.

But Moses replied to the LORD,“ Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent— either in the past or recently or since you have been speaking to your servant— because my mouth and my tongue are sluggish.”The LORD said to him,“ Who placed a mouth on humans? Who makes a person mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?Now go! I will help you speak and I will teach you what to say.”

“ But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to local courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them.

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven— angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.

Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.

John responded,“ No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.

When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly.

The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are instructed to know how to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens me each morning; he awakens my ear to listen like those being instructed.

Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God— who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly— and it will be given to him.

And all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

Beware of them, because they will hand you over to local courts and flog you in their synagogues.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, though he had decided to release him.

Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
